At 17 I joined the RAN, in 1965. The Ships I served on were HMAS Vendetta, HMAS Derwent

August 1965 on HMAS Vendetta, we escorted the HMAS Sydney up to Vung Tau, and off loaded, and reloaded more troops to bring home.

1966 on HMAS Derwent, we escorted the HMAS Sydney, to Vung Tau, and off loaded, and reloaded more troops to bring home.

1967 on HMAS Derwent, we escorted the HMAS Sydney, to Vung Tau, and off loaded, and reloaded more troops to bring home.

1969 on HMAS Vendetta, we escorted the HMAS Sydney up to Vung Tau, and off loaded, and reloaded more troops to bring home.

1971 on HMAS Vendetta, we escorted the HMAS Sydney up to Vung Tau, and off loaded, and reloaded more troops to bring home.

on my last trip, my brother Barry Thomas Hopkins, from 8RAR, was flown to the HMAS Sydney, and we were lucky enough to spend 20minutes together!

During this period, the Ships were, active with Malayan emergency, in the straights of Malacca, and in Borneo, most trips ranged from 11 to 13 Months.
