    • Peter thanks for filling in the missing bits. I was with the 2nd sweep through driving 29J. Several years ago John Gebhart’s wife completed a Quilt about this incident, I reconized it at a Craft Show and got talking. I met John and had dinner with them a few times before he passed away. His life was saved by the actions of those you described and they deserved some recognition for their disregard of enemy fire whilst helping John.

      • Thank you Paul Davison for your response and supportive comments about the brave actions of Craftsman Graeme Unmack and Sapper Steve Wilson in saving Trooper Gebhardt. Most of my fellow sappers in 2 Troop 1 Field Sqn RAE worked as Mini Team with 1 Armoured Regt at some time when we were not walking with the grunts, and we have particular affection for the brave RAEME blokes on the ARV including Dick Burton, Ferret and Gomer. Not at this loc. but I will never forget being harboured up on a jungle track one night in ambush next to a Centurion; I had done my picquet and gone back to sleep when all of a sudden there was the sound of a canister round from the tank, plus 30 cal and 50 cal going off. What a wake up call! Luckily no incoming on that occasion; there were En drag marks found the next morning on the track. Thanks again Paul.
